Junior Sailing News - Dillon Colorado

Update from Captain Stacey

Its been a great summer managing for the third year in a row the Dillon Yacht Club's Junior Sail Program in beautiful Colorado on Lake Dillon - 10,000 feet above sealevel. These kids are fantastic, smart and fun! We are so incredibly blessed to sail on a challenging and gorgeous lake surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. Sea Dog Sailing, Inc. also donated a trip to the BVI at the famous Dillon Open Regatta which has just finished this weekend.

100 Boats Expected At Annual Lake Dillon Regatta

More than 100 boats are expected to compete in the 37th annual sailing competition at Lake Dillon this weekend.

The Dillon Open and the Junior Sailing Tour are hosted by the Dillon Yaht Club, which boasts of being the nation's highest yacht club at 9,017 feet above sea level.

The race will host three courses this year, including the first on the main body of Lake Dillon for one-design keel boats.

The second course for the junior tour will be held in Dillon Bay, and the third course for the Laser No Coast Championships will be held on Giberson Bay, based out of the Frisco Marina.

Proceeds from the competition will be donated to the Dillon Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program, a non-profit that provides weekly sailing camps for children in the Western Slope and along the Front Range.

Proceeds from past years have allowed the purchase of a new building, new boats, hiring of top youth instructors, and have increased scholarship funds for financially disadvantaged youth.

Opening ceremonies will be at 10 a.m. Saturday. Registration is available at www.dillonopen.com

Friday Night Races

The DYC Jr. Sailing Program is hosting Friday Night Races through August 20th.  Boats are available to all 2010 Jr. Campers and all DYC members.  If you have your own boat, join us for races beginning around 5:30 off of the A Dock in Dillon.

Our first Friday Night Race was held July 9th.  2 junior campers chose to just sail around in a Pico while 2 other juniors decided to try their skills at racing.  Joined by 3 adults, it made for a fun evening of sailboat racing.  Races are weather permitting.

If you have any questions, call 970-389-3562.
